Designed by Willem Sandberg about 50 years ago
This is an exhibition poster (1973) designed by Dutch graphic designer Willem Sandberg. While serving as director of Amsterdam's Stedelijk Museum (1945-1963), he also designed numerous catalogs and posters. His striking lettering, exquisite use of color, and typography reminiscent of collages are unique and characteristic of his work. It was printed by de Jong, a printing company run by Peter Brattinga, making it an extremely rare and exceptional piece.
This is a newly framed poster. Rather than being solidly pasted, it has a depth of about 2cm, allowing the graphics to stand out. The simple, dry impression of the ash wood tightens the space and makes the poster stand out even more.
